Jeanie Ryan
Workshop 2T: Engaging Young Children in Early Literacy Activities at School and at Home
Jeanie Ryan has spent her entire career focusing on all aspects of literacy development. Her career began as a classroom teacher and quickly moved to specializing in reading and language arts, preschool-12th grade. After a number of years supporting children and teachers on the K-9 grade levels, she moved to the position of Director of Reading and Language Arts K-12 for 2 school districts. For 15 years, Jeanie taught graduate-level courses in the Literacy Studies Department at Hofstra University and for 4 years taught undergraduate courses in English and Language Arts in the teacher preparation program at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.
She has studied in 2 doctoral programs at the University of Maryland and Hofstra University. In all of her graduate studies, she has focused on integrating literacy across the curriculum. It has been her pleasure to present at a number of state and local conferences for both teachers and parents.
Currently, she is the Director of St. Luke Preschool and Childhood Center in Dix Hills, New York. She is also active member of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Garden City where she serves as Sunday School Director, Council member and is involved in a number of committees.
