Workshop 1P: Beyond Playdough - The Importance of Sensory Play in Early Childhood
Heather J. Pinedo-Burns is director of Hollingworth Preschool at Teachers College,
Columbia University, a lab school located in New York City. Hollingworth Preschool
has a dual mission to provide enrichment opportunities for young children while
also serving as a lab school site for the professional development of Teachers
College graduate students. Theory deeply informs our practice at Hollingworth
Preschool as we seek to provide teachers opportunities to experience educational
theory in practice. Before becoming director in 2009, eather taught at
ollingworth Preschool and as a seventh grade English for the Rochester City School
District. She earned a Doctorate of Education from the Department of Curriculum
and Teaching at Teachers College, Columbia University. er research interests
include early childhood, professional development of teachers, narrative inquiry,
curriculum theory, and aesthetics.
